Art exhibition “Auf Anfang” by Dieter Kiessling at KROHNE in Duisburg

The KROHNE Art Collection is showing the exhibition “Auf Anfang” by Dieter Kiessling from June 7 to July 19, 2024. Taking place on the premises of KROHNE Messtechnik GmbH, the exhibition shows both cinematic and photographic works from the years 1987 to 2024.

In recent decades, contemporary art has not only developed stylistically: by tapping into the expressive possibilities of new technologies - electronic media in particular - and overarching networks of different art genres in installations and sculptures, fresh and surprising new fields have emerged for the art of our time.

With Dieter Kiessling (*1957 in Münster) and his work, the KROHNE Art Collection presents an artist who has been active in these fields since 1982. In his artistic development, the connections and intersections between the traditional genres of sculpture/painting and the new media are clearly evident: Dieter Kiessling began his art studies in 1978 at the Art Academy in Münster with painting and sculpture.

From 1980, he attended the class of Prof. Reiner Ruthenbeck and from 1982, he began with the optical and acoustic investigation of real perceptions with the help of new electronic media, photography and sculpture as well as action and installation art. In 1986, he left the academy as a master student of Ruthenbeck. After several temporary professorships at various German art academies, Dieter Kiessling has been Professor of Media Art at the Academy of Fine Arts at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz since 2005.

In total, the exhibition presents around 20 artworks, including nine video works, and thus offers a comprehensive insight into the artist's work. Numerous works have the element of water as their theme; repetitive movements and the interaction of image and sound are further focal points. The video projection “Kleiderbügel” was inspired by a walk through the company premises: the footage was shot in the checkroom in 2024 and is now being shown for the first time.

The public exhibition opening will take place on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 18h at KROHNE Messtechnik GmbH, Ludwig-Krohne-Straße 5, 47058 Duisburg. Art historian Dr. Uwe Rüth will provide the introduction.

For those interested, the exhibition is open until July 19, 2024 every Tuesday and Wednesday from 13-17h without prior registration. Visitors have the opportunity to attend an artist talk with Dieter Kiessling on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 16h (open 14-18h).

Please contact Ms. Annette Friebe at a.friebe@krohne.com for special appointments. The finissage will take place on Friday, July 19, 2024 from 18-20h.
