Overview

Ammonia production in fertiliser production

Ammonia: Catalyst for nitrogen fertilisers and versatile chemical compounds

Ammonia is mainly further processed into nitrogen fertilisers and is also a major primary material in the manufacture of chemical compounds such as urea, hydrogen cyanide, sodium carbonate and nitric acid. The technical process for ammonia synthesis is based on the well-established Haber-Bosch process. For this, the hydrogen and nitrogen extracted beforehand in the synthesis gas process is converted to ammonia in the reactor at high temperatures and high pressure using a catalyst. There is often a downstream regeneration of the CO2 scrubbing agent involved for the upstream synthesis gas process. The bonded carbon dioxide can be extracted here in a high concentration for further use.

KROHNE has a diverse range of heavy-duty measuring devices for chemical production. These allow you to precisely set the optimal process conditions. For example, there are non-contact radar level meters for monitoring the scrubbing agent regeneration and the ammonia reservoirs, which provide reliable results even in harsh process conditions. The scrubbing alkali circulation can, for example, be robustly and precisely monitored using electromagnetic flowmeters and industrial resistance thermometers.
